for orchestra
VARIATIONS was Wim Henderickx's first big work for orchestra, a commission of the Jeugd en Muziekorkest, Antwerpen (Antwerp Youth Orchestra) in 1988.
In 2010 the composer rewrote this work for the young musicians of SJOE (Symphonic Youth Orchestra, Edegem), commissioned by deSingel in Antwerp.
Hannes Vanlancker rewrote this work for CONCERT BAND and conducted this version in April 2013 with the Wind band of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp for his final exam.
The work is a mixture of the variation form and the song structure ABA.
The orchestral power of his vast symphonic work TEJAS (2009) is already tangible in this early work.
