TORSO
for trumpet and piano
TORSO was composed in 1989.
As the title says, this work is inspired on a statue which emphasizes on the trunk of the human body.
During this period of composing, surrealism in works by a.o. Paul Delvaux and René Magritte, made a deep impression on the composer. The unreal and the elusiveness in these paintings was a starting point for this composition.
An intuitive experience was combined with a rational and mathematical elaboration.
Different contemporary techniques for the piano and the trumpet are explored in this work. The eagerness to tind new sound combinations was a very important drive at that time.
The different parts in this work succeed each other ‘quasi attacca’.
1. lento-rubato
2. moderato-marcato
3. scherzando
4. meditazione
5. feroce
