SONGS OF NATURE

Händel's 'Neun Deutsche Ariën' supplemented with new compositions by Wim Henderickx,
for soprano, traverso flute, bassoon, archlute, violin, viola and violone

Wim Henderickx was commissioned to compose new work for the song cycle SONGS OF NATURE, by B'Rock Orchestra and Muziektheater Transparant in 2019.

A contemporary answer to Händel’s ‘Neun deutsche Ariën’, composed for traverso flute, bassoon, archlute, violin, viola and violone, for this music theatre production with director Shuang Zou.

The new composition consists of 4 parts:

            Sweet Silence

introspective, starting from a solo melody in the traverso flute and gradually exploring different instrumental textures with various combinations in the ensemble

            Into the Darkness (De Profundis)

a vivid, and yet dark atmosphere, inspired by the motoric and rhythmic character of the
baroque music. This is interrupted by slow, colorful passages.

            Into the Light and Joy

high open chords as a representation of the light, interspersed with leggiero-like parts as an hommage to nature.

            Enchanting Emptiness

timeless music, written without bar-lines or strict synchronization between the players.
A spiritual reflection.
