SKRIET was composed in 1993 in commission of KUL (Catholic University, Louvain). In 2010 the composer made a version for WINDBAND.
It has been inspired on the painting The Scream by the Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch. The work treats feelings of fear and loneliness of a human being wandering in nature, which cannot offer comfort.
From the diary of Edvard Munch : I was walking along the road with two friends - then the sun sunk - the sky was suddenly bloodred - I stood still, leaned dead tired on the railings - above the blue black fjord and the city there was blood and tongues of fire - my friends walked further on and I stood still trembling of fear - and I felt that there was a huge, endless scream going through nature...
