SHRI YANTRA

for 8 channel soundtracks

Wim Henderickx made this electronic composition in collaboration with Jorrit Tamminga.

For the musical structure of this work, Wim Henderickx was inspired by the Shri Yantra, an abstract geometrical figure, serving as a guide for meditation and development of consciousness.

The work results from the work for music theatre VOID/SUNYATA (2007), written for 5 singers, ensemble and electronics.

As basic material for this electronic work, the composers made use of the sound of stones, wood, water, rustle sounds and a sample of the Tibetan cymbal.

The structure of the work as well as the spatialisation, were determined by the geometrical forms within the Shri Yantra.

The five nature elements were used as the foundation of the sound material: water, fire, air, earth and ether.
