OLEK SCHOOT EEN BEER ... (OLEK SHOT A BEAR ...)

for narrator and instrumental ensemble

This composition OLEK SCHOOT EEN BEER... was commissioned in 2005-06 by Youth and Music Flanders. Text by Bart Moeyaert, author and Antwerp City Poet in 2006-2007.

The choice of the instruments was inspired by the work 'L'histoire du soldat' of Stravinsky: clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion.

In this work, written especially for young people, the composer tried to write music that stirs up imagination, without making concessions concerning the musical language.

A book + CD of OLEK SCHOOT EEN BEER... was published (publisher Querido) in 3 languages (Dutch, German and French).
The music has been recorded by Radio Klara with soloists of the ‘Flemish Radio Orchestra’ (VRO) with Ivan Meylemans as the conductor and the author Bart Moeyaert as the narrator.

In 2017 Wim Henderickx also made a version for narrator, choir and orchestra.

Composed for various scenic interpretations:

LIED VAN DE MEISJES/SONG OF THE GIRLS

LIED VOOR OLEK/SONG FOR OLEK

2 SONGS FROM OLEK for children’s choir and piano / or accordeon (+/- 5’)

Scenic interpretation OLEK by I Solisti del Vento and Theater Taptoe (2009)
