NOSTALGIA

for 7 Middle East musical instruments

NOSTALGIA has been written for the Atlas Ensemble in 2010.
The work was a preliminary study of MEDEA (2011), a composition for music theatre.

Wim Henderickx's fascination for non-Western cultures led him this time to the Middle East. The title of the work refers to personal experiences of the composer with music from this region, as for him it often evokes a feeling of melancholia.

The work was written for 7 typical instruments like the ney, duduk, tar, setar, santur and kemençhe.There are 7 sections in which all instruments are alternating protagonists.

As a confrontation Wim Henderickx also wrote a version of this work for
7 WESTERN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

In 2017 he made a version for STRING ORCHESTRA, commissioned by the Boho Strings and conductor David Ramael.
