for orchestra
LE VISIONI DI PAURA (Visions of fear) for orchestra was commissioned by the New Belgian Chamber Orchestra and deSingel, International Arts Centre in Antwerp.
The inspiration for this orchestral work came from 'Inferno' by 15th century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch.
While composing Le Visioni die Paura - in August 1990 - the beginning of the Gulf War provided an element of underlying tragedy.
Le Visioni di Paura sometimes sounds aggressive, but never bombastic, and has a limited percussion section. In this work, Wim Henderickx wants to evoke a more or less poetic interpretation of fear.
Very high registers in the last part are followed by an anti-climax, fading into silence.
