LAMENTO

for 4 baritone saxophones (or cellos or bass clarinets)

LAMENTO was originally composed for 4 BASSOONS in 1994. In 2010 the composer made a version for 4 baritone saxophones.

A lamento is a song of mourning, so this work has a sad and melancholic character.

It is a short work devided in 3 sections.

In the first section there are polyphonic imitations by the 4 saxophones.

In the second section the solo by the first baritone sax, with ornamentations referring to etnical music, is  accompanied by a drown in the lower saxophones.

The last section starts from a homophonic texture debouching into a free aleatorical form.
