for flute, clarinet, violin (or viola) and cello
The first version of IN DEEP SILENCE II for recorder quartet was commissioned by the Flanders Recorder Quartet in 2002. The first version of this work has been composed within a series of chamber music works with silence as a source of inspiration.
There are 7 parts with titles as half conscious, tender, with desire, devoted, expecting, with joy and emptiness.
The work is based on the question how to deal with time, on how the listener experiences time in this composition. The composer is trying to give the impression of a timeless state, time that stands still.Wim Henderickx rewrote this work for flute, accordion, violin, viola and double bass IN DEEP SILENCE II, commissioned by deSingel in Antwerp and it was premiered by the young musicians of Aranis in 2011.
In 2012 Zvezdoliki Ensemble premiered the version for flute, clarinet, violin and cello on the occasion of Wim Henderickx's 50th birthday.
