IL PENDOLO
for double bass solo
IL PENDOLO for double bass was composed in 1989.
Umberto Eco’s book ‘Il Pendolo di Foucault’ served as a source of inspiration for the composer.
The composition consists of 4 contrasting parts, each elucidating a certain aspect of the double bass’ possibilities.
The first part (Allegro) has driving rhythmiques.
In the second part (Lento Misterioso) double bass harmonics are used, which create a bewitching atmosphere.
The third part (Scherzando) passes into the fourth part (Angoscioso).
In these parts several sound possibilities of the double bass, such as percussion effects, are explored.
