for mezzo-soprano, violin + live electronics
earth is a component of The Four Elements, 4 duos, namely AIR, WATER, FIRE and EARTH, accompanied by live electronics.
The elements of nature are put into sound in four movements for voice and soloist; an important part is played by the electronics.
The musical material was also based on solos from Wim Henderickx’s work for music theatre VOID (SUNYATA) (2007).
The pure but also raw EARTH for violin and mezzo is carried by electronic sound bursts of stones that are struck against each other. This part represents a foundation, a rigid, static basis.
