Disappearing in Light is het vijfde deel van de TANTRIC CYCLE, een compositiereeks geïnspireerd door oosterse filosofie.
Het werd opgenomen op de CD 'Disappearing in Light', samen met RAGA III en THE FOUR ELEMENTS (HERMESensemble).
Deze compositie werd geschreven in 2008 in opdracht van Inspiratum ter gelegenheid van de 60ste verjaardag van Axel Vervoordt voor uitvoering in de locaties in het Kanaalin Wijnegem. Het HERMESensemble voerde dit werk uit met Wim Henderickx als dirigent o.a. in Venetië, Parijs, Antwerpen en Utrecht en realiseerde in 2010 een opname hiervan.
In 2010 herschreef Wim Henderickx dit werk voor TROMPET, altfluit, altviool en percussie speciaal voor de opening van de Jef Verheyen tentoonstelling in Neuss ,Duitsland.
Disappearing in Light bestaat uit 3 hoofddelen: Darkness, Meditation en Light.
Tussen deze hoofddelen bevinden zich 2 Interludes, bestaande uit zelf geconstrueerde mantra’s. De eerste interlude is sterk en ritmisch, de tweede zacht en melodieus.
De ruimtelijke opstelling van de musici is zeer belangrijk.
Ook de belichting heeft een belangrijke rol: deel 1 speelt zich af in het donker met enkel de musici belicht, deel 2 in het halfdonker en deel 3 helemaal belicht.
De compositie is - zoals andere werken uit de TANTRIC CYCLE - gebaseerd op detantric mode, een zelf geconstrueerde microtonale toonladder.
Vanuit deze modus werden reeksen geconstrueerd die de basis vormen voor het melodische en harmonische materiaal van het werk.
Op ritmisch vlak is er gekozen voor een dualiteit tussen exacte tijdsaanduiding en een meer vrije aanduiding. Verschillende seriële procédé’s werden gebruikt.
De tekst is geconstrueerd volgens dezelfde strategieën als de ordening van de andere parameters.
