for mezzo-soprano, female choir and instrumental ensemble
DAWN was composed in 1992 for mezzo-soprano, female choir and instrumental ensemble (flute, harp, string quartet and percussion) in commmission of the ‘Festival der Voorkempen’.
In this cantate the composer is giving musical expression to 3 poems of the Lebanese prophet Kahlil Gibran. Song of the Rain, Song of the Flower and Song of Love were written as a whole.
This composition is characterised by the positive, wonderfully poetic, but simple text and by the sober and transparant orchestration.
By extending the vocal techniques and by using specific instrumental procedures a sound world arises which is trying to reveal the nature and the essence of the text.
