For this composition (2004) I was inspired by my work CONFRONTATIONS that was written in 2003 in commission of the ‘Zuiderpershuis’ (Antwerp) in which I wanted to confront western with non-western percussion. This work was inspired by African rhythm and dance.

In BOLOMAKOTé (a district in Bobo-Diolasso where Balaphone-players make music together) I rewrote certain parts of CONFRONTATIONS for western percussion only.
A percussion-soloist is accomponied by 4 percussion players.

Only rhythmical percussion instruments, namely skins, woods and metals are used.

This composition is a mixture of improvisation and notation.

The work contains a prologue and 4 parts :
1. Oppression
2. Revenge 
3. Confrontation
4. Fusion
