DE KLANK VAN DE STAD (The Sound of the City)

for soprano, mixed choir, children’s choir, violin and ud (or guitar)

DE KLANK VAN DE STAD (The Sound of the City) was commissioned by the A-KOOR in Antwerp in 2019 for the multicultural project 'Eén Stad' (One City).

The work was written on a poem of Maud Vanhauwaert and is inspired by the music of the late Antwerp singer, musician, poet and visual artist Wannes Van de Velde.

Composed parts are interspersed with improvisations by the violin and the ud (or guitar).

In the choirs you clearly feel the inspiration of medieval and renaissance music and of polyphony.

The work consists of 9 parts:
Introduction
Improvisation 1
Verse 1
Improvisation 2
Verse 2
Improvisation 3
Interlude
Verse 3
Epilogue
