for string orchestra
IN DEEP SILENCE III for string orchestra was originally composed for STRING QUARTET and was commissioned by the Flemish Festival der Voorkempen in 2003.
In 2020 he made a version for 5 VIOLA DA GAMBA for Hathor Consort.
The Boho Strings and conductor David Ramael commissioned this version for string orchestra for the recording of the full CD 'Nostalgia' with four of Wim Henderickx' s works for string orchestra.
This work was inspired by Haydn's Kaiser Quartet.
In Deep Silence III consists of three parts. Each part is based on a detail from the theme of Haydn's work. It is a personal comment that is intended to go further than just a straightforward variation on the theme.
In the first part, the melody is played by the first violin and the violoncello in high flageolet tones, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
The second part is a lament with the viola playing the melody.
In the third part, a static, harmonic foundation is laid down, while the first violin plays the melody.
The free (aleatoric) notation ensures that each musician is given the opportunity for individual interpretation.
