CELLO CONCERTO (Sangita)

for violoncello and orchestra



Cello Concerto (Sangita) was commissioned by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (deFilharmonie) in 2018. In 2013 he joined this orchestra as Artist in Residence.

The work will premiere at the Cello Biënnale in Amsterdam with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, conductor Klaus Mäkelä and Jean-Guihen Queyras, cello on 25 October 2018.

The Sanskrit word Sangita refers to music and performance arts in the Indian traditions.

This composition contains 9 episodes, presenting various “rasas” or states of mind, inspired by the Sangita Ratnakara texts of Carngadeva.
