for flute, violin, viola, violoncello and double bass
2 NOCTURNES for flute, violin, viola, violoncello and double bass was originally composed for WOODWIND AND PIANO in 1993 after the birth of the composers' eldest son, Ruben.
It was the commited work from Gemeentekrediet National Music Competition.
Commissioned by The Ministery of the Flemish Community and The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada this work was rewritten in 1994 for this instrumental combination.
In 1999 Wim Henderickx made a version for the Charlemagne Orchestra for FLUTE AND STRING ORCHESTRA.
The composition consists of two movements with an intimate, dreamy atmosphere.
Melodically and harmonically the composer used the harmonic series B and B flat.
A vague, almost improvisational rhythm and a colouristic instrumentation contribute to the poetic character of this work.
