THE SEVEN CHAKRAS

for saxophone quartet and live electronics

This composition was based on THE SEVEN CHAKRAS, composed for string quartet and live electronics in 2004 and commissioned by Spiegel String Quartet and deSingel in Antwerp.

It was the first work in the TANTRIC CYCLE, of which all compositions are inspired by Eastern philosphy and Buddhism.
Earlier compositions with the same source of inspiration were the 3 RAGAS (RAGA I, II, III).

THE SEVEN CHAKRAS can be performed with live electronics.
The integration of light effects is optional in a live performance.

The work contains 7 parts :

1. Muladhara (Earth)
2. Svadhisthana (Water)
3. Manipura (Fire)
4. Anahata (Air)
5. Vishuddha (Ether)
6. Ajna (Third Eye)
7. Sahasrara (Lotus)

Each of these parts has an extra-musical inspiration. The aim of the suggestive, meta musical elements is to evoke an atmosphere of meditation and reflection in the listener’s mind.
