MEDEA

for 1 singer, instrumental ensemble, live electronics and 4 actors

In commission of HERMESensemble and Music Theatre Transparant Wim Henderickx composed MEDEA with premiere in 2011 at deSingel in Antwerp, it toured in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2011-2012.

Peter Verhelst wrote the text, based on this Greek tragedy.
Four actors from Veenfabriek performed four monologues with Paul Koek as the director.

HERMESensemble was conducted by Wim Henderickx, who also played percussion instruments himself.

The work premiered in the concert version LAMENTO DI MEDEA at the Music Biennale in Venice in September 2011.

Traditional Western instruments such as flute, clarinet and viola complemented with duduk and percussion instruments from the Middle-East. Also an electric guitar and electronics were integrated.

As a prestudy Wim Henderickx composed NOSTALGIA for 7 Middle East musical instruments.

This project was supported by the Flemish Government and the City of Antwerp.
