This work was composed in 1991 on the text of this well-known English Christmas carol.

The Lemmens Institute in Leuven (BE) commissioned Wim Henderickx to write his own version of this carol, for the CD recording 'Europese kerstliederen uit oost en west' (European Christmas carols from the Occident and the Orient).
